When to introduce your child to Solid foods
The best indication to know that your baby is ready for solid food is when she shows interests and reaches for your food. You can also consult your doctor to know if the time is appropriate for your baby to consume solid baby food. Cereal is recommended as baby's first food. Cereals made of rice, oats or barley can also be good starters. Add plenty of liquid to soften the food so that baby can easily swallow the food. Remember that all solid foods are not good for an infant to start with, especially in the first year. You need to avoid nut butters, egg whites, honey, spicy food, junk food, canned vegetables and larger meat with dark meat. Guidelines for Solid Foods

a) 4 to 8 months old: If your child is four to eight months old, feed him semi liquid food to start with. Feed him 1 or 2 teaspoons at first and increase it as your child grows older. You can feed him 1 to 2 times a day
b) 6 to 9 months old: If your child is six to nine months old feed him soft food that dissolves easily. Feed him 3 or 4 teaspoons of semisolid foods. You can feed him 3 to 4 times a day
c) 9 to 12 months old: If your child is nine to twelve months old feed him finger food and mostly table food. Feed him small bite size portions of food. You can feed him around 3 times a day.
